Mayan Kippot

Buy a kippah, support a Mayan family in Guatemala and a small Jewish Day School in Annapolis, Maryland

In August 2008, Bennett aged 7 and his brother Ari aged 6, went to San Marcos La Laguna, a Kaqchikel Mayan village of 3,000 people, on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala in Central America. A meeting with several Mayan women who crochet kippot resulted in Bennett and Ari's parents helping their children negotiate the purchase of as many kippot as the boys could carry home.

The money paid for the kippot goes to Mayan women who use it to help educate their children, bring electricity to their homes, and get access to medical care.

Once purchased, these kippot were donated to Aleph Bet Jewish Day School, a Jewish school of 48 children spanning from kindergarten to grade 5. On behalf of their school, Bennett and Ari are now selling these kippot as a fundraiser for Aleph Bet.

Be part of a double mitzvah -- support Mayan women and children -- support Aleph Bet Jewish Day School.
